Internet hacking is not a new concept, and computer owners most often use antivirus as well as internet security tools to protect such incidents. With the increasing amount of smart phones on the market, more consumers are turning occasional internet usage on computers to the convenience of browsing through their cell phones. However, many people do not think about how their information hacked on their phones just as easily as their personal computers. Below are some tips to help protect yourself during internet use on your phone:

  • Never lose sight of your phone. Although this seems like common sense, many phone hacking victims have their personal information stolen simply by leaving their phones unattended for just a few minutes. Always keep tabs on your phone; if you have to leave it for any reason, keep the keypad locked.
  • Do not share your passwords with anyone. At the same time, it is a good idea to have unique passwords that are completely different from the ones you use on your personal computer.
  • Never connect to unfamiliar networks. It is best to connect solely to your cell phone company’s network for safety reasons. If your information is ever compromised while on their network, the company can help you easier.
  • Consider buying a hacking detector, especially if your information has been hacked into before.

Finally, if you are ever hacked while browsing the internet on your phone, make sure that you contact your cell phone company immediately. Signs of hacking can vary by phone; some users might receive strange text messages, while others might experience an unusually high rate of battery drainage. Contact the company as soon as you notice something unusual with your phone.
